The Architectural Heritage Fund (AHF) is delighted to have been able to join Redruth Revival CIC and other partners at the official launch of the Buttermarket last week.
This cluster of Grade II listed buildings was originally built in 1825. For many decades, it was a popular meat market, playing an important role in developing Redruth’s identity as a bustling market town. However, as the demand for the market later began to decline, the Buttermarket gradually fell into dereliction.
Following a £4m renovation by Redruth Revival CIC, one of the AHF’s Heritage Development Trusts, the Buttermarket has now been given a new lease of life as a thriving cultural and community hub.

The restored complex includes a food hall, with a wide selection of delicious street food kitchens to choose from, as well as retail units, co-working spaces, and a diverse programme of live music, workshops, markets and more. It has become the go-to place for Redruth’s vibrant community to come together, whether it be to eat, work, dance, socialise, or to celebrate their town.

The AHF has supported this project with a range of grants since 2019, all awarded through the Transforming Places through Heritage programme which focused on heritage and community-led regeneration projects within town centres. An initial Project Viability Grant enabled Redruth Revival CIC to undertake a feasibility study focusing on building condition, services, and design and development constraints. In 2021, a Project Development Grant helped fund professional fees to progress the project through to RIBA stage 4. A Transformational Project Grant was later awarded to support the extensive programme of conservation, repair and refurbishment of the Buttermarket, protecting the historic building fabric and enabling Redruth Revival CIC to deliver its vision for the future of this iconic complex.
We would like to congratulate the Redruth Revival team and Board on their work to date and wish them every success in building a thriving community asset for the town!
