As a new year begins, the Architectural Heritage Fund is renewing our commitments to the Flexible Funder initiative, led by the Institute for Voluntary Action Research (IVAR). We know, as both a funder and a recipient of charitable and public funding, how complex the funding landscape has become, and we also recognise that many of the projects we partner with and support have even less resource than we do to dedicate to the important task of raising funds. That’s why we first signed up to IVAR’s eight commitments in 2020, and it’s why we remain an advocate for responsive funding today.
Our own challenge remains to be accountable in both directions – to the projects we support and to our own funders. In renewing our commitments, therefore, we continue to recognise these dual responsibilities, as well as the limitations they may bring.
