AHF is seeking a Chair for its Audit and Risk Committee and new trustees

25 April 2024
UK

We are currently seeking to appoint at least three new trustees to join our Board, including a Chair of our Audit and Risk Committee. This is an exciting time to join the AHF, following a period of expansion over the last few years and as we head towards our 50th Anniversary in 2026.

Founded in 1976, the AHF is the UK’s leading social investor in heritage-led regeneration, putting sustainable heritage at the heart of vibrant local economies. We fund charities and social enterprises across the UK to reuse historic buildings for a variety of new uses, particularly in areas of economic disadvantage. The AHF works across all four nations of the UK offering advice, grants, loans and other forms of social investment to organisations seeking to reuse historic buildings for community benefit.

In the last three years, the AHF awarded 645 grants and loans and a total of £23 million in new investment into heritage projects across the UK. This is a unique opportunity to join an ambitious organisation that plays a unique and long-standing role in place and heritage-led regeneration.

Chair of Audit and Risk Committee

Led by the Audit & Risk Committee Chair, the Audit & Risk Committee is a committee of the Board that works closely with the CEO and the Director of Finance, to review the organisation's finances, control processes, and risk management, as well as overseeing the annual audit arrangements.  The ARC Chair is responsible to the Board of Trustees.

The Audit & Risk Committee Chair will provide leadership to help ensure that the AHF’s external and internal audit functions are operating efficiently and effectively, to ensure that the risk management process adopted by the AHF enables the identification of key risks as well as the internal controls to mitigate these risks and that the AHF maintains adequate and effective financial controls and processes.

For this position, applicants should have relevant skills and experience for the role and be suitably financially qualified. The position is unremunerated, and the appointment would be for an initial 3-year term, with the opportunity for renewal (up to a maximum of two further terms). In line with our equality and diversity commitments, the AHF is particularly interested to receive applications from candidates from diverse backgrounds with the skills and experience we are seeking.
