A once vibrant area of Luton, with hat factories and associated industries, the Plaiters Lee conservation area is set to thrive again. You may know the successful arts and performance venue, the Hat Factory, run by Luton Culture. Luton Culture has now secured development funding for a project known as The Hat Workshop at 47 Guildford Street. This will become a Creative Maker’s space, targeting small and start-up businesses, graduates and hobbyists to enable their creative practice to grow in a supported and mentored environment. The Architectural Heritage Fund’s Project Development Grant of £25,000 will be used as partnership funding for the Heritage Lottery Fund’s round one Heritage Enterprise Grant to this exciting new development. This funding is a major contribution to the work being done to develop Luton’s Cultural Quarter, to deliver city centre regeneration, jobs, cultural and arts engagement, skills and talent development.
