Trust celebrating as work begins at Grade II* Heritage at Risk site in Bridport
After more than 6 years of planning, Bridport Area Development Trust is about to start work on the restoration of the Literary and Scientific Institute building in East Street, Bridport, Dorset. The Grade II* listed building was previously the town library but has been empty and slowly deteriorating since 1997. It is currently on the national At Risk register.
The Trust is scheduled to grant possession of the site to the contractor on the 22 August, and it is estimated that the restoration work will span a year, with the building open for business in Autumn 2017.
The AHF has provided support to the Trust since 2012, awarding a series of development grants, together with a grant of £200,000 toward the capital cost from the Challenge Fund for Historic Buildings at Risk.
