The Department for Communities and Local Government has announced 77 projects that will be receiving up to £50,000 each from the new £3 million Coastal Revival Fund.
The vital role of heritage in attracting investment and boosting the visitor economy in coastal towns has long been recognised so it is heartening to see a significant number of historic building regeneration projects receiving support from the Fund. Among them were 9 buildings that have benefited from AHF grants or loan funding, including the Grade II* Paignton Picture House and Grade II* Brighton Hippodrome, where the Theatres Trust is working with a new community interest company on a viability appraisal to help identify a sustainable future for the building.
The other AHF-supported projects on the list are:
• Wells Maltings, Wells-next-the-Sea, Norfolk
• Bawdsey Radar, Suffolk
• Old School House, Lowestoft, Suffolk (part of the Historic Scores Project)
• Marine Theatre, Lyme Regis, Dorset
• Swanage Pier, Dorset
• Shoreham Fort, West Sussex
• Lytham Hall, Lancashire
