The AHF can provide grants, subject to eligibility, to help with assessing the viability of a project, or to help fund development costs.
First, please download and read the guidance notes, and the details of the supporting information you will be asked to provide.
We strongly encourage you to discuss any potential application with the relevant Support Officer in your area before submitting an application.
You can start the application process using the link at the bottom of this page. We recommend preparing your answers before beginning the online application using a Word document of the questions here - please note however formal applications can only be accepted online.
Note that for an application to be considered the online application and supporting documents must both have been received by the deadline date.
We generally expect applicants to cover at least 50% of the cost of the work. i.e. you must normally be able to match our grant offer with your own funds or with funds raised from other sources. Some exclusions apply; contact your local Support Officer for more details.
Please note that our eligibility criteria and funding priorities have recently changed; please read the updated Guidance Notes for details.

Applications for grants of less than £5,000 can be made at any time and we aim to give you a decision within 6 weeks.

26 October for 7 December Council meeting
15th February for 29th March Council meeting
10th May for 21st June Council meeting

Project Viability Grant (PVG)
Project Viability Grants (PVG) are to fund studies to look at potential uses for a building and at its current condition, and produce a Viability Report to a standard template. Successful completion of this will be used to judge whether applicants can then apply for the AHF’s Project Development Grant funding, and can be used to secure further funding elsewhere. This grant is administered on a rolling basis. We aim to let you know whether you have been successful within six weeks.
Project Development Grant (PDG)
The Project Development Grant (PDG) scheme is intended to assist an organisation to cover some of the costs of developing and co-ordinating a project and taking it towards the start of work on site.
To qualify, an organisation must have established that the end use of the project is likely to be viable and have decided to take the project forward.
Please note that our eligibility criteria and funding priorities have recently changed - see the updated Guidance Notes for details.
